TBT# 11 - Rare capture of JDH wearing glasses

In the second half  of 2016, the Korean cast of musical Turandot went to China to perform, and  Dong Ha joined them too, as Prince Calaf. During that trip some crazy dedicated fan caught him wearing glasses. How cute and unusual. It was worth saving!
I keep wondering if anybody would recognize him, if he walked like this on the streets of Seoul.
(BTW, the photographer is famous "Snowman", one of the fantastic fans who take some of the most wonderful pictures of our beloved Jung Dong Ha)

Another award

Yesterday, July 11th, there was an Award Ceremony for  Daegu International Musical Festival - DIMF.
Dongha was unexpectedly honored with a Popular Artist of The Year award, and appeared to be very happy about it.

This is the same DIMF Award Ceremony, where he received his Debut of The Year  award in 2014, for his role of  The Poet (Gringoire) in "Notre Dame De Paris, the Musical".
This time, he couldn't of course  receive  Rookie Award any more, so he got Artist of the Year, probably because of his big success in Musical Turandot, where he played the role of Prince Calaf.
During the ceremony in Daegu, he and Ali even performed a duet from Turandot, and Dongha sounded great in my opinion, while Ali actually tried  to out-sing him, and sounded too loud.

Was this latest award the fans doing? Did they somehow place his nomination, and voted for him in full force?  Or has he truly received the recognition by music professionals?
I wonder.
He definitely deserved it, but the string of successes he has had last year, and this year, seem almost too good to be true. What is wrong with me? Why am I so suspicious?
                

              Anyway, it was good to see him in public again, well dressed, and in a very good vocal form.

PS. Just to set records straight; I have received  an explanation that the winners of the DIMF were chosen by the organizers of the festival.  It wasn't based on public votes. OK.

TURANDOT again...

I read some fans comments under pictures of Dong Ha  in his costume from the musical. One of them said:

                       " Was he a prince in his previous life? Because this role suits him so well"

The show is still going on, and there are 4 more dates with Dong Ha as Prince Khalaf.

One thing I noticed, while viewing pictures from various days of the shows, is that the other two actors who also play Khalaf, always wear a necklace. Dong Ha doesn't. I keep wondering why. He in fact almost always wears necklaces during concerts. So it's puzzling he is not wearing one in this musical, while other actors in the same costume, decorate their necks.           

More TURANDOT, because it's so cool

I am posting a couple of "Turandot" related videos, because it is still on-going in Seoul right now, until March 13, 2016. One video is from curtain call on Feb. 28, 2016. There are many of these curtain call videos posted on Youtube, from all the shows Dongha is in. I really love checking these out, since the music is so good, and the costumes spectacular. The curtain call from Feb 28th is so nice, because Jung Dong Ha is particularly animated and happy. It must have been a very good audience on that day.



"Turandot-The Musical" is such a world class production!!!I admire the actors/singers, but also all those people who are responsible for putting everything together: directing a large group of people to make sure the message of the story is well conveyed, both by the music, the acting and singing, the costumes, the lighting, the emotions, and to make it all finally run smoothly, and give beautiful, unforgettable experience to the viewers. I am so proud and happy that Dongha is part of it.

The reviews are good

I am told, that reviews have been very good after the first 2 shows of TURANDOT in Seoul, with Dong Ha as heroic Prince Khalaf,  on Feb. 17, and Feb 19th, 2016. The reviewers said good words about his acting, and especially about his singing skills. Compared to Daegu show, certain things have been changed, like the costumes and hairdos of the supporting characters. Some things were added, like a duet of Prince Khalaf and Turandot, which made me quite happy. From the video clips, I could tell that the orchestra is playing in a different way, than the Daegu orchestra. The sound of the Seoul orchestra is more sharp - I wonder if  it is because different instruments are in the forefront? The effect is louder, bolder music with a touch of sharpness. Maybe more dramatic.It's just my personal taste - but I liked the sound of Daegu orchestra more, because it was more suppressed, and more mellow. It was more suitable for the "underwater kingdom", where the story takes place.

This duet is very good. It seems that Turandot is already falling for the prince, but they are still fighting against each other. They will overcome their difficulty. Prince Khalaf  is very strong and decisive, trying to convince her about something, probably about her being wrong to be so icy cold. He is forceful, but not brutal. He is much stronger than Turandot, and he will be the leader in their relationship. She will follow, out of love.
That's what my understanding of this duet is.                                                                                                                  @@@

New Round of TURANDOT-THE MUSICAL in Seoul

Started yesterday, February 17th. It will go on till March 13th. The new schedule indicates that Dong Ha will be in 12 shows as  prince Khalaf.

Prince Khalaf !

JDH as prince Kalaf in Turandot - Musical, on Dec.11-2015. The title is the same as the famous opera composed by Puccini - probably because the story of  cruel princess Turandot  is basically the same. Music is different, and from what I know, the musical was first time put on stage in 2011.
I believe the music is composed by a Korean(s). From the video of curtain call, the music is very nice, quite contemporary.

Currently, the musical is shown in Daegu Opera House, and Dongha is scheduled to join the team of singers/actors once again on Dec. 26 and 27th, for 3 performances. Then in February and March 2016, the show is coming to Seoul, and hopefully we will see Dongha as Prince Khalaf a few more times.


I wish I knew more about the creators of this musical, and the story behind it, but it was very difficult to find any information.

Exciting news: we are getting a musical!

End of the year surprise!!! Dongha will be participating in Musical TURANDOT, as one of main characters.
I didn't even know that such musical existed. I only knew of the opera by Puccini.  The musical apparently has been shown on Asian stages for a while. I am hoping for really good music. Additionally, Ali will have the role of princess Turandot. The two of them hopefully will have a great duet !
I just can't wait! It will be so much fun to see the videos in December, and listen to the two of them singing.

Below is the posted today schedule of all the actors. I marked the days that Jung Dong Ha is cast. There will be only 4 days of him performing. However, on December 12 there are 2 shows and on that day Dongha will be with Ali. Oh, how I envy people who will be in the theater that day.
